Hairy Frog Fish Story - While diving in the Puerto Galera in the Philippines with Asia Divers, I was fortunate to have two guides, Alli and Mazi discover this hairy frog fish in a field of soft coral. The first time Mazi found him, he actually found him with a baby next to the mother. I had my wide angle lens and dome and was so excited that I never saw the baby, I was focused just on the mother taking shot after shot trying to get as close as I could because I did not have my macro lens. It was not until we surfaced that we were sharing how exciting it was to find a hairy frog fish, let alone two of them. Wait a minute, two of them? Yes, Alex, you didn't see the baby. WHAT? What baby? Suddenly my heart sank because one, I did not focus on a baby and two, did I kill or hurt the poor thing with my big camera rig because I did not see it? As soon as I got back to the dock, I took out the digital card to load onto my PC so I could blow up the shot to see if I had any shots of the baby with the mother and to make sure I did not hurt the poor thing. Fortunately I did have some shots and did not hurt the baby. Of course, I had to switch lens and try to go back and find them again so I could get better shots. Unfortunately we did not find them again but we did find another hairy frog fish.
